ROCKY MCDOWELL

Rocky is a co-owner of CrossFit AMROCK, has enjoyed CrossFit since starting in 2014. Rocky is a native of Idaho Falls and is dedicated to building a unique CrossFit community at CrossFit AMROCK. He has been an athlete throughout his life and with that had triumphs, suffered injuries, and continues to fight his way toward being a stronger & healthier athlete. Rocky enjoys the opportunity to coach others and see them reach their potential.

BOB HANSON

CrossFit has been Bob’s passion for several years. He has seen positive changes in people’s physical and emotional lives as they commit to a CrossFit program. They begin to see their life gets a “kick in the pants,” and they become an improved version of themselves. Bob is eager to coach athletes along that path and especially those who are considered senior citizens. In addition to CrossFit, Bob loves to ride bikes, fish, golf, hike, and help his wife move the rocks around in her garden.

MAURI BORAGINE

Mauri has a deep love and respect for the unparalleled way that CrossFit trains the body to succeed and be fruitful in all areas of life. She has long enjoyed running, strenuous recreational activities, and boxing. Mauri loves to teach others how to reach their ultimate capacity for true fitness, which in turn fuels all of our physical endeavors; whether climbing mountains or picking up groceries.

MATT RAMIREZ

Being an active athlete in high school with football, wrestling, track and powerlifting, Matt had an immediate love for CrossFit when he started in 2012. Matt received his CF-L1 in 2014 and coached at Upper Left CrossFit in Washington. He left CrossFit due to work and life, but understanding the impact it had in his life, he wanted to get back full swing. He has a big passion to see others succeed and help them realize the impact CrossFit can have in their life. Matt just earned his CF-L2 in May 2019.

MARC HIRSCH

Marc started CrossFit September 2014, was certified as a CF-L1 January 2015, and has been coaching ever since. Marc is currently finishing his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy at ISU and loves applying what he learns to CrossFit, which he calls, “the philosophy of fitness.”  Marc spends his free time watching basketball, taking road trips, hiking, and relaxing.

DAN BECK

Dan Beck is a certified Spartan SGX Coach and provides private and group training to prepare people of all abilities to get off the couch and take on obstacle races. He is one of the Captains of the Warrior State of Mind obstacle racing team and also operates Grit League, which organizes obstacle races specifically for kids. He has completed numerous Spartan Races and ultra-endurance events over the past 3 years including the Spartan Agoge on the Great Wall of China and the Spartan Agoge on the Isle of Skye in Scotland.

JARED CHRISTENSEN

Jared knew there had to be a fitness discipline which could meet and exceed the varied demands of the people he interacted with and his own passions. Training better suited to mastering high-country hunting, dominating on the football field, and maximizing everyday life than the glaring gaps he experienced with traditional gym workouts. Jared attended his first CrossFit class at AMROCK's open house in Fall 2016. The workout of the day included power cleans, a run around the block, and pull-ups. He found a fitness program that fused strength, cardiovascular endurance, and body-weight movements in an endless combination. This was it! Since that day, Jared has worked to continually improve his commitment to the CrossFit discipline and earned his CF-L1 in December 2018. In addition to his passion for functional fitness, youth sports and outdoor recreation; Jared enjoys adding to his collection of Spartan race medals with his family.

GAVIN CHRISTENSEN

Gavin has loved being a part physical fitness since middle school. He started with many powerlifting and isolation movements, but looked for something more to prepare for the physical demands of football. Gavin started coming to CrossFit with his parents during the 17.3 CrossFit Open workout, and has had a passion for it ever since. He earned his a CF L-1 as his senior project and uses those skills to better himself and others, including training for Spartan races.

Spencer Sessions

Congratulations to Spencer Sessions on being chosen as our male Athlete of the Quarter! Spencer started CrossFitting at AMROCK in October 2018 to stay fit post running season. He still remembers his first WOD—G.I. Jane (100 burpee pull-ups for time). Despite the intensity, Spencer was hooked and quickly became part of the AMROCK family. Spencer always refreshes us with his willingness to work hard. He says, “I often look at the WOD and say: ‘no way I can do that many’, but somehow it gets done and keeps me challenged in a world of convenience and abundance.” Spencer is a self-employed commercial banker. He enjoys spending free time in the outdoors—fishing, boating, and hiking, as well as spending time with his wife and their four daughters and one son. Way to go, Spencer! Thank you for your commitment to growth!

Heather McVey

Congratulations to AMROCK’s female Athlete of the Quarter, Heather McVey! Heather has been doing CrossFit for six years and has been part of our AMROCK family since the beginning. She’s an inspiration to our community—always encouraging others and wanting others to succeed. Heather is hard working and it shows. She says, “You don’t realize what your body can do until you have something like CrossFit to challenge you.” This summer Heather is running her second Spartan Ultra. She and her husband have two daughters and they love spending time as a family out camping and riding ATVs. Thank you, Heather, for your awesome example of dedication! We appreciate you!
